All about Research Scientist & Children’s Book Author Hayfa Daly & Her New Book "Good Sugar Rules"
Last week, I had the privilege of sitting down with Hayfa H Daly to talk about her work as a research scientist, her illustrations, and everything you need to know about her new children’s book Good Sugar Rules: Welcome to Sweetland. This is the perfect book to read to your kids as it educates and promotes a healthy diet and lifestyle, using fun adventures to teach kids the dangers of too much sugar.

Hayfa came to the US as a research scientist in 2012 after graduating from the South University of Paris with a Ph.D. in Immunology back in 2006. Hayfa now lives in Houston, Texas where she works on cell therapy, researching new ways to treat cancer patients.
Since Hayfa grew up in Tunisia, Africa, and did much of her higher learning in France, when she first moved to America, she was shocked at the food choices we had here. Hayfa recalled searching and scouring the grocery stores for any kind of bread or baguette without added sugar. To her dismay, it took her a whole month before she was able to find something like the bread she was used to back home. Hayfa quickly realized that most processed foods have too much added sugar, and she began to fear for those of us who consume these products without regard to our body's sugar limits.
After seeing that many American holidays are also rooted in sweet treats and sugary snacks, Hayfa knew she needed to do something to bring awareness to the sugar epidemic plaguing America.
Since she's always had a passion and talent for writing and illustrating, it makes sense that she would write and illustrate her first children's book Good Sugar Rules: Welcome to Sweetland.
In our interview, Hayfa explained that when she was a kid, she would often write and draw to entertain her siblings during the summer months. Her stories were so lively and imaginable that her siblings actually believed one of her characters was real! It wasn't until her siblings were older that they realized Hayfa had made the character up--and it's something they still all joke about.
Prior to publishing Good Sugar Rules, Hayfa had made a number of children's books and illustrations that she would only really share with her family, but when she knew she wanted to make a fun and healthy habit-forming resource for kids and parents, she knew she needed to get her book out into the world. "I feel that the scientist I am today and the child I used to be collaborated together to make this book. I'm very happy with it," Hayfa explained.
In February of 2023, Hayfa published her book, Good Sugar Rules: Welcome to Sweetland. Hayfa's book is a fun read for kids, taking them on an exciting and colorful adventure in order to promote good and healthy eating habits.
