Interview w Jason Harrington, Author of the Epic Horror Fantasy Trilogy Destiny of the Void Triangle

This week, I sat down with Jason Harrington, author of the epic horror fantasy trilogy Destiny of the Void Triangle to discuss his most recent release, the third and last book in the trilogy, The Chronomancer and Creation’s End.

To find out more about the world of Pravahs and the Destiny of the Void Triangle, check out my full author interview with Jason Harrington on YouTube:

Jason recalled loving the art of writing from an early age. In our interview, he said, "My imagination has always been out of control. It was around Halloween in, I'd say, third grade, maybe first grade. I wasn't the brightest kid in the bunch, I'll admit, but they were doing a writing assignment, and I said, Well, what do you want me to write about? and they said, Oh, whatever you want. I remember being like, Wait a minute, anything? This concept of releasing my imagination onto paper is intriguing to me. So from there, I've just unleashed it on paper every time my imagination had something."

His huge imagination is what inspired him to write the Destiny of the Void Triangle Trilogy. After having the original idea over two decades ago, Jason became serious about his writing and released the first book in his trilogy, The Chronomancer and the Book of Worms, in December of 2019.

BOOK DESCRIPTION:

The Book of Worms shall rise before Creation’s End!

These were the last words of the Order of the Void Triangle before they were executed, two millennia ago. Some of these dark magi vanished before capture. The world of Pravahs suffered from a time of darkness and genocide at their hands. These demon-instructed magi turned the skies black, led an army of the living dead and demons in a global conquest, and left miles of burned earth in their hellfire assaults. Their defeat was nothing short of miraculous. While the land remembers, people forget. The people of the continent of Stratia have dismissed the ancient ‘Black Decade’ as myth, even while their blood runs cold with fear at the mention of the dreaded ‘Void Hands’. But the people of the nation of Malkanor are more concerned with foraging for their next meal, or if their hovels will stand against the next storm. Their dying cries and anguish are silenced by the merciless nobility.

A change Comes! Rylin unleashes an innate raw power to save the life of his best friend, Ishell. This is noticed by the Order of the Enlightened Sun, an order of united magi who serve all Stratia. For the two friends, a time of discovery and transformation is about to begin. But no rising light will remain uncontested by darkness. The Order of the Void Triangle has chosen a new form for a new era. After centuries of slumber, they will rise and gather their dark powers. They will continue in their objective…the annihilation of everything!

When I asked about the inspiration behind this world that he's created, here's what he said: "Pravahs is a world where a lot of the inspiration for the society, magic system, and everything comes from a lot of reading I did, like David Eddings, Terry Brooks, and Robert Jordan. Of course, I loved Wheel of Time, but those were definitely heavy inspirations.

"I liked the way their magic had consequences and rules and limits," Jason continued. "Now granted, my limits are way out there now. With things like Robert Jordan and Terry Brooks, I liked their character differences and developments, so I kept that in mind when it came to the characters of the Destiny of the Void Triangle. Since it's written in the third-person perspective, I like to have an idea of where their growth is gonna go in the end, and one of the things I love doing is not focusing it all just on the main character. There are a plethora of other characters with different motivations that I've just enjoyed coming up with."

In our interview, Jason explained how the COVID-19 pandemic gave him the push and time he needed to start seriously working on his full trilogy.

"2020 offered some chances," Jason explained. "I really spilled it out there as fast as I could. So once I got the first book out, I knew that with the idea sitting in my head for so many years and then it finally coming out, I wasn't going to stop until I was done."

In August 2021, Jason released his second book, The Chronomancer and the Crimson Invasion.

BOOK DESCRIPTION:

Poverty and sickness are on the rise, as the Order of the Enlightened Sun remains silent.

In the two-year wake of the battle of Katahn, Stratia cries in pain and rage, desperate for answers or a place for their blame.

But they are not alone in their anger!

Fearing a repeat of ancient history, the Kasarin Empire sends an overwhelming army, led by the titan Zenen’Rol, to eradicate every Stratian.

Now, Rylin, Ishell, and a handful of Lights, must defy the apathetic wishes of the Order, and defend Stratia. They will rally with the stalwart and exhausted forces of Malkanor to defend against the coming army of fury.

But hidden in the shadows, the schemes of the hellish Book of Worms persist; even from within an impassable barrier of spirit

Soon after he published The Chronomancer and the Crimson Invasion, Jason published the third and final book of the Destiny of the Void Triangle Trilogy in 2022, The Chronomancer and Creation's End.

BOOK DESCRIPTION:

The Marauders of the inferno have not heard the call to crush spirit and will for eighty millennia. We, the Blisserack, have waited, stoking the heat of our rage until we could, once again, immolate and break the foul corruption named creation.

But our liege has manipulated the weakness and vices of the living world. They have given rise to Crayaht’En, our chosen one, our messiah of annihilation. He has already called a Devourer of the Siege from the bloody seas of the realm of malice, and it glutted itself on hundreds of humans.

The call of Crayaht’En is silent now. Those who supplicated before hated creation think to plot and wriggle free of what awaits them, just like those we maim in the inferno. They may yet thicken the spread of creation and bring an end to our assault.

But our lords still grin!

We have weaponized the frailty of the human condition. Even now, a deceitful queen maneuvers to claim her own empire, tapping into forbidden knowledge for her own desires. Such pursuit may yet give us Crayaht’En, allowing him to tear those meager restraints asunder.

Naejestrisis will return, and when he does, he will call us into war. We will unleash great fires on that fragile world, and Pravahs will fall to our wrath.

We will obliterate all creation!

Jason's most happy with the evolution of the trilogy, explaining how some of the final scenes in book three were very emotional for him to plan and execute. The Chronomancer and Creation's End is a bloodbath, proving to be a wild finish to this epic series!

"The gruesome darker aspects are more Clive Barker and Stephen King-inspired, and as we've been going through the trilogy, you start with The Chronomanser and the Book of Worms. To put it best, it's kind of like Harry Potter, written by Stephen King. So, that was just my kind of testing it out and seeing if I was right about people being as interested in the kind of concepts I thought they might be.

"And there are people interested," Jason said, "so I took it a step further in The Chronomanser and the Crimson Invasion. We've been going deeper and deeper into the dark as we've gone along. Then in The Chronomanser and Creation's End, it hits the bottom of the dark."
