Interview with Alfred Muller, Fantasy Writer & Author of The Water Crystal: Rise of Azrisol Kaimana

This week, I had the privilege of speaking with fellow indie author and fantasy writer Alfred Muller to discuss his writing process, his short stories, and everything you need to know about his epic supernatural fantasy book The Water Crystal: Rise of Azrisol Kiamana. Check out the link below to watch our full video author interview on YouTube:

In our interview, Alfred explained that he's always loved story-telling. From an early age, he recalled how his parents always encouraged his creativity. He said, "We used to go camping a lot in upstate New York, and my mom would tell bedtime stories. I loved the idea of creating something from nothing. Then, my dad would always play with me, and we'd make-believe, and had little G.I. Joe action figures we'd play with. It just built the idea of creating a story and entertaining yourself for a period of time on something that was out of nothing."

His parents along with literary greats like Brandon Sanderson and Terry Goodkind really inspired his love for writing and encouraged him to pursue his passion.

Since he grew up in a creative household, Alfred's book The Water Crystal: Rise of Azrisol Kiamana was actually inspired by a game he and his siblings would play as children. In our interview, Alfred explained that he was always interested in the supernatural and curious about angels, demons, and the spiritual realm surrounding us. This little interest grew and grew until Alfred decided to study the Philosophy of Religion in college.

After a book called Hush Hush came out in the early 2000s, Alfred realized that he could actually write a book about this interest of his, diving into a supernatural world of his own.

The Water Crystal: Rise of Azrisol Kaimana follows Anthony Luther, a boy from a small town who makes a deal with the devil. As the story develops, he learns that this deal with the devil might be more than he initially realized. As the supernatural world blurs with his real one, Anthony uncovers secrets and is found stuck in the struggle between good and evil.

While the plot was inspired by Paradise Lost and Dante's Inferno, The Water Crystal: Rise of Azrisol Kaimana is an epic and urban fantasy, set in the modern day with supernatural and horror elements throughout. This a read that's sure to keep you on your toes as the story unravels!

Full Plot Summary:

The monster in his nightmares calls him friend, but Anthony Luther wants nothing to do with the Man-in-the-Dark, wishing only to disappear into the small town of Heckhaven, TN. Unfortunately for him, that town has a long memory and it remembers he caused a fire that killed one of their own. Ten years later Anthony learns that sharing a drink with someone in the abyss of the afterlife is more than it seems.

His best friend, Dezeray Lilet is able to overlook his past transgressions making life in the small town bearable, until another fire threatens to unravel his happiness. Already marked by the first fire Anthony doesn't think he'll be able to overcome a second. To make matters worse Dezeray has hidden her past from herself as a coping mechanism, but when Anthony’s past resurfaces her own skeletons are pulled from the cobwebs of her mind unleashing her personal demons into the pot of chaos brewing.

All comes to a head when a demon crashes a graduation party and tips the pot flooding the town of Heckhaven with violence. Only then is a reluctant group of angels called Sciathan Zaldune dispatched to watch over Anthony, at least until the secrets of his past and his connection to the Man-in-the-Dark can be explained. Caught in an ancient struggle between good and evil Anthony finds himself forced to side against humanity to save himself and his few friends.

Additionally, Alfred enjoys writing short stories and has two out on Amazon: "Tir's Trial" and "Reaper Society."

"Tir's Trial" is a 45-page fantasy tale about a thirteen-year-old boy faced with a challenge that determines whether or not he'll earn his place in his tribe: survive three days in the fae-infested woods outside the village or get left behind. This story displays epic world-building and intense outcomes and is a must-read for any fantasy lover!

Here's more about the plot:

Survive. Tir just had to survive three days in the woods outside his village. A task completed by countless others became complicated when an elf, hunting a group of Ivelk crossed his path. Now, infected by one's venom and pushed further into the sapient part of the forest Tir's timeline is being stretched to its limit. If he fails he will be banished into the part of the woods trying so hard to kill him and be abandoned as lost by his family. Most return from the trial with grand tales and deep understanding. If Tir can make it back to his village his trial may cost him a part of himself.

"Reaper Society" is an urban fantasy tale that Alfred wrote after losing his aunt. This story is one of his darker ones, diving into topics like death, coping, and grief, but also incorporates topics like hope, support, and healing.

Here's the summary:

Living in the cemeteries of our world is a group of people removed from society. They lurk in the shadows, they are the odd sounds you hear at home, the reason doors are left open. These individuals are Reapers. They claim the souls of the deceased. One, in particular, has a knack for reaping, but Death has taken an interest in him forcing him to reap the souls of children. In this short story follow Destin Macalester as he faces himself and an old rival. Will he crack under the pressure or hold himself in check?

In our interview, we also discussed how amazing it is to be an indie author and have full control over the outcome of our stories! While Alfred is happy to promote his book and short stories, he is also diligently working on book 2 in The Water Crystal Series and is already half-way through writing it!
